Symptoms and Diagnosis

Leukaemia symptoms will depend on the type of leukaemia you have. Chronic leukaemia can develop slowly so many people may not have symptoms in the beginning. Acute leukaemia can make people feel unwell very quickly over a couple of weeks.ÌýÌý

The most common symptoms of leukaemia are:Ìý

  • Weight loss - Losing weight easily without meaning to. This may happen without changing your diet but losing weight anyway.Ìý
  • Feeling tired or weak - Feeling more tired or weaker than usual even with plenty of rest.Ìý
  • Bleeding and bruising easily - Having new or unexplained bruising, bleeding easily such as nosebleeds or blood in your urine or poo.Ìý
  • Swollen lymph nodes - Swollen lymph nodes particularly in your neck, armpits and groin and feel swollen to the touch.Ìý
  • Fever and getting infections easily - Feeling very unwell with a high temperature and getting infections easily such as coughs and colds and taking a long than usual time to recover.Ìý
